Recipe Cost Assessment

Last updated: 26th April 2024

The recipe creator can calculate the cost per portion or cost per 100g for each recipe.

To add ingredient costs, simply click on the ‘Cost’ box corresponding to each ingredient and enter the cost per unit of weight.

You can use any variable of price and weight e.g. ‘€5/10kg’, or ‘£3.10 per lb’.

Once you add a cost to one ingredient, there is no need to continue to enter the currency symbol for subsequent ingredients. An ingredient tagged with a cost will be reflected throughout all of your recipes that use this ingredient.

If you cannot see the cost column beside your recipe ingredients, it is not a standard feature on your account. It may be added from Start > Add Features or by contacting us at support@nutritics.com if required.

Once a cost has been attached to a food either via batch import, or individually, search results can be filtered to only show foods with a cost attached. Click Settings>Preferences>scroll to the ‘Searching’ tab:

Advanced Costings

Food outlets can add their Gross Profit Margin and VAT rate to calculate the Recommended Retail Price. Add this per product/portion size in the recipe workspace by clicking on the price/RRP section:

Input a profit margin percentage per portion or additional costs here, such as employee, packaging and shipping costs. Waste percentages will total here automatically if attached to ingredients.

Nutritics will automatically suggest the RRP using ingredient costs input and the Profit Margin. You can edit the profit margin per product here, or set a default rate in Settings>Preferences>Sales & Finance.

In the bottom grey bar you can input your desired sale price. This will show excluding VAT to the right. Additionally, the ‘Cost of Goods Sold’ (COGS%) and Gross Profit will be calculated automatically at the bottom.

You can edit the VAT rate at this stage or by clicking the % beside the sale price in the product/pack size section:

Alternatively set a default profit margin or VAT/Tax percentage from Settings>Preferences>Sales & Finance. This will automatically add a rate to recipe RRPs instead. If you’re including items on a menu you can choose to show VAT/Tax inclusive pricing.

A table of all ingredient costs can be generated from Menu>Input/Output>Shopping List. For a full guide on shopping lists, see here.
