We were delighted to be a headline partner at Peach 20/20, the UK hospitality industry’s most prestigious conference and awards.

Over the course of the conference, 350 senior sector delegates heard from a roll call of industry legends, discussing the challenges and opportunities across the sector. Unsurprisingly, sustainability was top of the agenda. While it’s clear that hospitality and foodservice businesses and supply chains need to do better when it comes to sustainability, there is a gap between knowing this and actually taking action – measuring, acting and improving. Finding ways to bridge this gap is now a top priority for the industry.

Kate Nicholls, UK Hospitality CEO used figures drawn from our latest research project to illustrate the importance of transparent and sustainable business practices. Based on 2,000 respondents, this research revealed that:

  • 44% say sustainability is important when it comes to selecting what to eat or drink from a menu, and only 10% said it was not important at all.
  • 16-34 year olds are 18% more likely to say that sustainability is “very important” when it comes to selecting what to eat or drink from a menu.
  • One in three customers (32%) are more likely to eat or drink at a venue/brand which is transparent about its environmental impact/commitment to sustainability, compared to one which isn’t.
  • 16-34 year olds are 19% more likely to favour a venue which is transparent about its environmental impact compared to one which is not.

It’s obvious that an effective ESG strategy is now as important as financial strategy for any hospitality business seeking to safeguard business health and longevity.

At the end of the evening, we were delighted to present the Nutritics Sustainability Hero Award to Wahaca, the multi-award winning Mexican restaurant group. This was a very well-deserved win for a business that puts environmental impact at the heart of everything they do.

We were also very proud to see our new Foodprint graphics on the evening’s menu – guests could see at a glance the environmental impact of all the dishes. We’ve been thrilled to follow up with all the hospitality operators who are now eager to include our Foodprint stamps on their menus, too!
