Eat Curious: Leveraging carbon data in the sales process
Find out how Eat Curious uses Nutritics to showcase carbon savings of its plant-based food products and improve product development.
Eat Curious
- UK plant-based food manufacturer
- Utilises Nutritics’ recipe management and Foodprint to compare the carbon savings of conventional dishes with those made using Eat Curious products

Customer Background
Eat Curious develops innovative, sustainable, plant-based food solutions for the foodservice industry. Their product range, made from pea and faba bean proteins, is free from the 14 main allergens and produced without isolates, supporting their commitment to clean, nutritious, and environmentally friendly eating. The company’s products help businesses offer healthier options while reducing their carbon footprint, with a climate impact of just over 1kg CO2e/kg of product when hydrated. Eat Curious supplies the foodservice sector, including hospitals, universities, and works closely with all the major UK contract caterers and distributors.

The Challenge
Eat Curious needed a way to demonstrate how their products could help customers meet carbon reduction goals. The culinary team at Eat Curious had developed hybrid recipes, replacing animal-based proteins with their plant-based alternatives, but struggled to track and display the carbon savings of these products.
The key challenges included:
- Lack of transparency in quantifying the sustainability impact.
- Difficulty in calculating and presenting accurate carbon and nutritional data.
- Time-consuming manual processes for recipe development and tracking.
- Inefficient new product development processes.
The Solution
Eat Curious required a system that could accurately calculate carbon footprint data, which was crucial for demonstrating the value of their products to customers. Additionally, from an NPD (food manufacturing) standpoint, it didn’t meet their requirements.
Nutritics provided a platform to manage and demonstrate the sustainability and nutritional benefits of Eat Curious’s products. Key features included:
-
Carbon Footprint Analysis
Foodprint is Nutritics’ tool that allows users to calculate and display the carbon footprint of recipes and products. Eat Curious imputed the carbon data into the platform and were able to get accurate carbon savings for products and hybrid recipes.
-
Recipe Management Integration
Integration with RTM product lists (Bidfood, Brakes, and Vegetarian Express) has enabled Eat Curious to accurately replicate existing customer recipes and create new ones using precise ingredient data.
-
Real-Time Data
Up-to-date information for customers to make informed decisions.
-
Cost Analysis
Calculate ROI of Eat Curious’ products in recipes by analysing margin and cost improvements.
The Results
-
Enhanced Customer Engagement
Collaborated with a key customer to launch a carbon-reduced menu, resulting in product listing via a national distributor and positive feedback, while also supporting customers with point-of-sale marketing showcasing sustainability and nutritional data.
-
Showcasing Carbon Savings
Achieved 6,000 kg CO2 savings in January 2025 (up from 2,000 kg in June 2024) by swapping 40% of beef in a chili recipe with Eat Curious’ dehydrated mince, demonstrating tangible environmental impact.
-
Improved Efficiency and Competitive Advantage
Streamlined the NPD process by automating carbon footprint calculations, improving internal collaboration, and enabling Eat Curious to showcase the value of their products through transparency in sustainability, nutrition, and cost, strengthening their competitive edge.
“We will continue to use Nutritics to drive performance, improve NPD cycles, and increase sales by providing transparent data that highlights the value of our products.”
